European beech is a strong performer. It has an average dried density of around 710 kg/m³ and a Janka hardness of about 6,460 N, placing it firmly among premium European hardwoods.

It is one of the densest European hardwoods, with an average dried density of about 735 kg/m³ and Janka hardness of around 7,260 N. Beech is close behind at 710 kg/m³ and 6,460 N.
But the best firewood for most customers is not always the heaviest or hardest option.
Hornbeam is excellent when you want maximum density and a long, powerful burn. But beech offers something more versatile: a beautiful flame, very strong heat, easier everyday use and a more balanced experience in the stove.

Why FLAMECO’s <10% moisture standard matters
Moisture is one of the biggest differences between ordinary logs and premium firewood.
Wood does not burn efficiently when it is carrying too much water. Before wet wood can give you useful heat, part of the fire’s energy has to evaporate that water. Forest Research notes that moisture content has the greatest effect on the net calorific value of wood fuel because water must evaporate before the wood can burn properly.
That is why FLAMECO dries its premium hardwoods to below 10% moisture.
Less water means the fire can do what you actually want it to do: produce heat, flame and comfort.

Ash is a good firewood, but beech is typically denser. Birch is easy to light, but usually burns faster. Mixed hardwood can be convenient, but it can also be inconsistent — one delivery may feel different from the next.
European ash is commonly listed at around 680 kg/m³, silver birch at around 640 kg/m³, while European beech is around 710 kg/m³. That extra density helps beech deliver a more substantial, longer-lasting hardwood fire.
